What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Blog Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. We do not share this data with anyone.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media in Grid Designer

You may upload an image in order to digitize that image into a project grid. These images are not kept or shared in any way by our site. They are analyzed only for the purpose of creating the digitized grid, which is visible only to you.

Designs in Grid Designer

Your designs are yours. We do not access or keep any designs you create on the site. When saved, your designs are stored in the browser local storage of the browser you were using when you saved them. They exist locally on your device. You can also export your designs to files on your local device.

If you elect to share a design, the design is kept anonymously on our server and may be deleted or archived at our convenience in the event that disk space becomes an issue. We agree to keep shared designs for at least 6 months, but reserve the right to change the time limit in the future, as needed, depending upon disk space usage. Your shared design can be seen only by those you choose to send your share link to. We do not view or collect shared designs. Your design belongs to you.

When you share a link to a design with another person, that person can load a copy of that design into the Grid Designer tool. They can then edit that copy of the design. They cannot modify your shared design, only the copy they have loaded can be modified.

Contact forms

Contact forms may include your email address. Email addresses are kept only for the purpose of responding to your comment or inquiry and are not used for any marketing purposes. We do not sell email addresses to anyone.

Cookies (Blog)

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. Your data is not shared with anyone.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in to wordpress, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day. We currently do not allow users to edit or publish their own articles.

Cookies (Grid Designer)

The Grid Designer software does not use cookies.

Grid Designer does use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with IP anonymization. GA4 is used to gather anonymous data about what features of the Grid Designer are being used and how often. Our current understanding is that if we do not share the data with other tools, we are not required to ask for cookie consent.

If you use GA4 with IP anonymization and do not share users’ data with other Google products, you do not need to receive explicit Cookie Consent.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not share customer data with external entities in any way.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you use a contact form, we keep any contact information you provide, such as an email address, in order to correspond with you on your specific inquiry. Emails and your email address may be kept indefinitely, to maintain a record of previous conversations/questions to facilitate later communication. You may request that all your emails and email address be deleted at any time.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

GDPR Compliance

To the best of our knowledge, we consider freese-works.com to be GDPR compliant. We do not store personal data as part of the Grid Designer application. Personal data is stored as part of the word-press blog, as described above, and can be removed using word-press. While designs can be saved to our server to share with others, we do not store any personal data as part of those designs. They are stored anonymously and it is up to the user who creates them to decide who to share them with.

The freese-works.com site is currently a non-commercial site. We do not profit from anything users do on the site. We do not sell goods or services to anyone. The site is free for all to use to make your own designs.
